If you have been staying up to date on recent speech and debate news, you may have seen that four 8th grade students from our Speech and Debate program won World Schools Debate in the NSDA National Championship tournament in Des Moines, Iowa last June.
On October 22nd, TL Speech and Debate National Champions Alina Robinson, Talia Simon, Calvin Massey, and Neilson Chien were recognized at the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Meeting. Supervisor Ray Mueller recognized these four students for their contributions to San Mateo County. Afterwards, students and Mr. De enjoyed speaking to State Senator Josh Becker and Representative Anna Eshoo, who is retiring from Congress this year.
On November 12, these four students were recognized at the San Carlos City Council Meeting. Mayor John Duggan presented Mr. De with a City Coin, and the students were given commendations by the city. Each student gave remarks to the City Council on their experience at nationals and appreciation for speech and debate, as well as the City of San Carlos.
